Our Review

This EP is Mastered for iTunes. In December 2011, Metallica celebrated its 30-year mark with four nights of unhinged rock mania for fans at San Francisco's famed Fillmore. Each night the band performed a “new” song—a previously unreleased cut from the sessions for its 2008 Death Magnetic album. Knowing how quickly word spread on these tracks, the band released this four-track EP of that material just as soon as those historic shows wrapped up. Not live cuts or demos, these are four fully formed songs from the band's studio time. “Hate Train” kicks things off with a nearly unstoppable pace, furious riffs, and the kind of invective that only James Hetfield can dig up. Bookended by a righteous call-to-arms by the name of “Rebel of Babylon,” this EP adds a few more flames to the Metallica inferno.

Awesome! (5 stars)

This EP is 100 times better than that lulu album.

Fallen from Grace (1 star)

I have been a devoted Metallica fan from Kill em' All to Reload. Since then they have abandoned us and expected us to swallow music like this. Go back and write songs again, learn your instruments again, love music again. This is not music, it is monotone speak singing, bad down beats and fret wanking guitar solos. I love this band and I hate what they've done to Metallica.

Epic new songs! I wish Death Magnetic was a double album now!!! (5 stars)

I wouldn't have left off any of the original material, but I was one of the fortunate few that got to see two of these songs premiered live this past week in San Francisco! There is some great stuff in here, including their tribue to Layne Staley "Rebel of Babylon."

These are rough mixes, as they weren't the final polished version, since they didn't made the album. You may find yourself wondering what was left to do t

Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions. The release of 1983's Kill 'Em All marked the beginning of the legitimization of heavy…
